There’s something extra special about capturing the wedding day of two people you have known since college. This summer, I had the honor of photographing Sydnee and Jake Phelps’ summer wedding on a beautiful, rustic farm in Kentucky, where Sydnee is from. They were high school sweethearts and this wedding had been a long time coming. The backdrop of rolling fields and the glow of golden hour light set the stage perfectly for a day filled with joy, deep emotion, and unforgettable memories.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this wedding would be unique. Sydnee and Jake’s families, along with their close-knit college friends, surrounded them, each person ready to celebrate the beginning of a lifelong love story. Every detail was crafted with thoughtfulness, from the wildflower bouquets to the warm rustic decor, which gave the day a sense of charm and authenticity that matched the couple’s personalities perfectly.

Sweet, Emotional Moments with Family

There were so many tender moments, like when Sydnee’s mom adjusted her veil with teary eyes and the sweet embrace between Jake and his dad just before the ceremony. Golden hour is every photographer’s dream, and Sydnee and Jake’s photos during this time were nothing short of stunning. As the evening grew dark, Sydnee and Jake surprised everyone with a fake send-off. With sparklers in hand and cheers all around, they shared a “goodbye” kiss under a tunnel of lights – only to turn around, laughter filling the air, and dive right back into the party! This impromptu moment kept the night alive with even more laughter, dancing, and celebration.
